More Space Stuff

Via Hobbyspace

The last two items in particular are terrific. I don't say this lightly about any man, but Richard Branson, I love you.

If we get lucky, there could be a bunch of these things all trying to get airbourne in a few years. Which will be pretty cool, and ought to attract quite a bit of media attention, especially given the 'race' dimension.

The last great boom of science fiction happened during the last space race, and I don't think that was a coincidence. I've said before I think science fiction has difficulty gaining traction in popular culture today because most new technology is so quickly absorbed by the commercial marketplace, and as soon as it does so, it ceases to be science fiction and becomes 'now'.

But as Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy wisely noted, space is big. When we start making the first baby steps to a spacefaring future, people will realise that there's hundreds and hundreds of years of exploration and expansion ahead of us, even just in this solar system. And there's only one entertainment genre that can explore that.

Hi:

Anybody who quotes The Hitchiker's Galaxy is OK in my books! Your blog titled "pacifism" was one of the top 3 listed in a search I did with the words "tolerance, peace, moral, violence, hate". I'm attempting to get a discussion going revolving around those words to see if there's the possibility for constructive change, and would value your input. Please drop by if you've got a sec at www.lineofthought.blogspot.com

Thanks
Rick

Hi Rick

Interesting idea. I've been a bit busy with assignments and the like... I'll get to it if I can.
